This is it. My base carry. The product of much toil and jubilation. We've all had at least one miserable day on the trail. If not, it's coming. Fortunately, those are the moments when we learn the most. Hopefully, we've all also had at least one unforgettable moment of overwhelming joy while we were outside.

It's fun to think about what I carry and all the little experiences and lessons that account for it. Not much makes me happier than knowing I can set out in any direction with all I need to sustain me on my back. Freedom is the best.

What I lay out here is what I consider my most versatile system. I would feel comfortable taking it out on just about any trip. In future installations, I'll go over how I might modify this load for different variables as well as look into specific items in more detail.

Lastly, I think it's important to mention the fluidity involved with selecting what we decide to carry. Learning and trying different combinations is an incredibly fun part of the process. It's a lifelong endeavor, and I doubt we ever stop honing our approach. I appreciate the craft in this sort of effort. So I guess this a step along the way.
